COD rules, COD order limit and part-payment
Updated 13 October 2026
Cash on Delivery sells, but refused parcels (RTO) cost you shipping both ways. Three settings let you keep COD for good buyers and ask for money up front where it is risky. All are off until you switch them on.
Where
Dashboard → Settings → Payments → Cash on delivery tab.
1. Part-payment (advance to collect online)
- The buyer pays a fixed amount or a % of the order online, and the rest in cash on delivery
- Needs a payment gateway, GoKwik or UPI (Direct) switched on to collect the advance
2. Limit Cash on Delivery by order value
- Full COD only up to the amount you set
- Above it: online payment only, a % advance, or a fixed ₹ advance
- If a part-payment rule also applies, the buyer pays one advance — the larger one
3. COD rules
- Conditions: the delivery PIN code is on your list, the buyer has never ordered from your store, or the buyer has refused at least N COD parcels at your store
- Outcomes: prepaid only, require part-payment, add a COD charge, or allow COD (as an exception above a stricter rule)
- Up to 20 rules, checked top to bottom — the first match decides; no match means COD is allowed
- Buyer history counts your store only. The shopper sees a polite message, never the rule
Each order page also shows delivery history for orders like it — how often COD orders to that area were returned, and how each courier has delivered there. These are past figures, not a prediction or a score.
